Poem from Kirk and Cindy Blackburns Class

These are the 2 poems that Kirk and Cindy Blackburn shared in their class at our Relief Society Birthday Party.

The Book of Mormon

and the TV Guide

On the table side by side,

The Book of Mormon and the TV Guide.

One is well worn and cherished with pride.

Not the Book of Mormon, but the TV Guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide,

Nope, not the Book of Mormon, but the TV Guide.

As pages are turned what shall they see,

Oh, what does it matter – turn on the TV.

The word of God is seldom read,

Maybe a verse here or there before they fall into bed.

Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,

Not from reading the Book of Mormon, but from watching TV.

So back to the table side by side,

The Book of Mormon and the TV Guide.

The Plan of Salvation is full and free,

But is found in the Book of Mormon, not on the TV.

The Gospel Library

or Some Other App?

On my mobile device, I might find, perhaps,

Multiple icons for LDS apps.

So many icons!  Which one will I tap?

The Mormon Channel or some other app?

I can listen to music, religious or rap!

Do I choose LDS Hymns, or some worldly app?

To guide me through life, I’ll use a map.

You might be surprised; the LDS Youth app.

I have a small break.  I can fill in the gap.

Maybe with LDS Tools or the Gospel Art app.

With so many choices, my battery I’ll zap

Watching good stuff on the Bible Videos app.

When I’m sitting in Church, my phone in my lap,

Am I using Gospel Library or some other app?

So many distractions!  Don’t fall into traps.

Strengthen your Spirit with Church sponsored apps!

Missionary Service!

This is a letter and picture that I received from the missionary to whom I gave the shirts and ties and school supplies to.
Thanks, Shelly

>
> Dear Shelly,
>
> It has taken me a while to email you because ten days ago we moved from Castries to Vieux Fort and then we had a very busy schedule this week. I wanted to let you know how very much the people here appreciate the many things that you donated for their use. Sister Nicholas (green shirt), Sister Thomas (the Relief Society President-orange shirt), and I went through the items to decide where each thing could be used the most. We gave many of the materials to our Primary to help them. The largest part of the school materials will go to the school for special needs children that you and Sister Nicholas talked about. She and I will take the red suitcase full of that materials to that school this week. I will let you know how it goes. We have given out some of the shirts and ties to some young men preparing to go on missions during this coming year. The other shirts and ties will be given out by the Relief Society President as needed. I can’t thank you enough for your generous contributions. Love and best wishes, Sister Horne

This is the Vieux Fort Special Education Centre.  Their mission statement says, "The Vieux Fort Special Education Centre aims to provide for the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students with special needs and to facilitate their full inclusion into society."
Sister Horne and Zaphina Nicholas are with a school volunteer and one of the children and then with the school principal, Palma Phillip Joseph, to present your donations to the school.

The students were very excited to hold the items to see what was being donated to the school
Everyone wanted to just hold something for a few minutes.
This is the resource room where the donations were put until they can be distributed to the teachers for different ages and classes.

These are class rooms.

This is the kitchen at the school.
This is Elder Horne with more students.  It was a pleasure to take your donations to the school.  They expressed their appreciation and will put the donated item to good use.  Thank you to all of your ward, and especially to the Relief Society, for helping this very needed school as they try to educate and care for students of all ages from preschool through teenagers with special needs and learning problems.

Best wishes and appreciation, Sister Horne
