       Chapter 5-Principles of True Repentance
"For those who pay the price required by true repentance, the promise is sure. You can be clean again. The despair can be lifted. The sweet peace of forgiveness will flow into your lives."
My beloved brothers and sisters, as we seek to qualify to be members of Christs Church-members in the sense in which He uses the term, members who have repented and come unto Him- let us remember these six principles. First, the gospel is the Lord's plan of happiness, and repentance is designed to bring us joy.  Second, true repentance is based on  and flows from faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other way.  Third, true repentance involves a change of heart and not just a change of behavior.  Fourth, part of this mighty change of heart is to feel godly sorrow for our sins.  This is what is meant by a broken heart and a contrite spirit.  Fifth, we must remember that most repentance does not involve sensational or dramatic changes, but rather is a step-by-step, steady, and consistent movement toward godliness.

Chapter 6- Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Redeemer
      President Benson's testimony
"With all my soul, I love Him.  I humbly testify that He is the same loving, compassionate Lord today as when He walked the dusty roads of Palestine. He is close to His servants on this earth. He cares about and loves each of us today.  Of that you can be assured.  He lives today as our Lord, our Master, our Savior, our Redeemer and our God.  God bless us all to believe in Him, to accept Him, to worship Him, to fully trust Him, and to follow Him."

 REMEMBER
*Like the sun is there for everyone, He is the Son of God and shines over us, He is there every day!

       Presidency- Conversion
April 2002 General conference, Elder Richard G. Scott, Full Conversion Brings Happiness
"Membership in the Church and conversion are not necessarily synonymous, Being converted and having a testimony are not necessarily the same thing either.  A testimony comes when the Holy Ghost gives the earnest seeker a witness of the truth.  A moving testimony vitalizes faith.  That is, it induces repentance and obedience to the commandments.  Conversion is the fruit or the reward for repentance and obedience."
October 2012 General conference, Elder David A Bednar, Converted unto the Lord
Knowing that the gospel is true is the essence of a testimony, Consistently being true to the gospel is the essence of conversion.  We should know the gospel is true and be true to the gospel.

"Living the Gospel Joyful" by President Uchtdorf
Part of our challenge is, I think, that we imagine that God has all of His blessings locked in a huge cloud up in heaven, refusing to give them to us unless we comply with some strict, paternalistic requirements He has set up.  But the commandments aren't like that at all.  In reality, Heavenly Father is constantly raining blessings upon us.  It is our fear, doubt, and sin that, like an umbrella, block these blessings from reaching us.
His commandments are the loving instructions and the divine help for us to close the umbrella so we can receive the shower of heavenly blessings.

Chapter 4-Living Joyfully in Troubled Times
"Happiness here and now consists in freely, lovingly, joyfully acknowledging God's will for us- and doing it in all ways and all affairs big and small."
Of all people, we Latter-day Saints should be the most optimistic and the least pessimistic.  For while we know that "peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion, "we are also assured that "the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst." (D&C 1:35-36)
Be cheerful in all that you do, Live joyfully. Live happily. Live enthusiastically, knowing that God does not dwell in gloom and melancholy, but in light and love.

Chapter 3- Freedom of Choice, an Eternal Principle
"Agency has been given to all of us to make important decisions that will have bearing on our salvation.  Those decisions affect our happiness in eternity."
Usually the Lord gives us the overall objectives to be accomplished and some guidelines to follow, but he expects us to work out most of the details and methods.  The methods and procedures are usually developed through study and prayer and by living so that we can obtain and follow the promptings of the Spirit.  Less spiritually advanced people, such as those in the days of Moses, had to be commanded in many things.  Today those spiritually alert look at the objectives, check the guidelines laid down by the Lord and his prophets, and then prayerfully act-without having to be commanded "in all things."  This attitude prapares men for godhood....
We should be "anxiously engaged" in good causes and leave the world a better place for having lived in it.

        Presidency-
Dedicated visiting teachers answer the call from latter-day prophets to give Christlike service.  President Spencer W. Kimball, the twelfth President of the Church, taught: "God does notice us, and he watches over us, But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs.  Therefore, it is vital that we serve each other in the kingdom."  President Thomas S. Monson, the sixteenth President of the Church, said: "We are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness.... We are the Lord's hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children, He is dependent upon each of us."

      Chapter 2- Pray Always
It is my testimony, my brothers and sisters and friends, that  God does hear and answer prayers.  I have never doubted that fact.  From childhood, at my mother's knee where I first learned to pray;as a young man in my teens; as a missionary in foreign lands; as a father; as a Church leader; as a government official, I know without  any question that it is possible for men and women to reach out in humility and prayer and tap that Unseen Power; to have prayers answered.  Man does not stand alone, or at least, he need not stand alone.  Prayer will open doors; prayer will remove barriers; prayer will ease pressures; prayer will give inner peace and comfort during times of strain and stress and difficulty. Thank God for prayer.

Christlike attributes

From the First Presidency Message, Fill the World with Christ's Love,
President Uchtdorf says:
The simplicity of that first Christmas foreshadowed the life of the Savior. Though He had created the earth, walked in realms of majesty and glory, and stood at the right hand of the Father, He came to earth as a helpless child. His life was a model of modest nobility, and He walked among the poor, the sick, the downcast, and the heavy laden.
Though He was a king, He cared neither for the honors nor the riches of men. His life, His words, and His daily activities were monuments of simple yet profound dignity.
Jesus the Christ, who knew perfectly how to give, set for us the pattern for giving. To those whose hearts are heavy with loneliness and sorrow, He brings compassion and comfort. To those whose bodies and minds are afflicted with illness and suffering, He brings love and healing. To those whose souls are burdened with sin, He offers hope, forgiveness, and redemption.
If the Savior were among us today, we would find Him where He always was—ministering to the meek, the downcast, the humble, the distressed, and the poor in spirit. During this Christmas season and always, may we give to Him by loving as He loves. May we remember the humble dignity of His birth, gifts, and life. And may we, through simple acts of kindness, charity, and compassion, fill the world with the light of His love and healing power.

3Nephi 27:27
Therefore, what manner of men out ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.
